Happy 4th from the City of Fort Walton Beach

The City of Fort Walton Beach would like to encourage everyone to be safe this 4th of July weekend.  The Fort Walton Beach Police Department will be enforcing laws regarding illegal fireworks.  Illegal fireworks are those that fly and/or explode.  Sparklers, fountains and smokers are permitted.  Police officers will respond to unlawful fireworks calls and confiscate all fireworks; charges may be filed if warranted.    Police will also strictly enforce Driving Under the Influence laws during the holiday period.  If you plan on drinking alcohol, please have a designated driver or call a taxi.  A cab fare is cheaper than a DUI.

If you are planning on using fireworks at your home, the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department reminds you of these safety tips:
Ø     Always read and follow label directions
Ø     Have an adult present when setting off fireworks
Ø     Buy from state certified fireworks distributors only
Ø     Ignite outdoors with water handy (garden hose)
Ø     Don’t make your own fireworks or take fireworks apart to see how they work
Ø     Never relight fireworks that don’t work
Ø     Don’t give fireworks to small children
Ø     Store in a cool dry place
Ø     Soak used fireworks in a bucket of water before disposing
Ø     Never throw fireworks or shoot them at another person
Ø     Never carry fireworks in your pocket
Ø     Never shoot fireworks inside glass or metal containers

The City of Fort Walton Beach wishes everyone a safe and happy 4th of July.
